On September 23 major convenience store chain 7-11 launched a promotion to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Gundam series. In addition to a plethora of Gundam-themed food products from Pringles chips to Cup Noodle, the company is also selling two limited-edition figurines of the mobile suits Gundam and Zaku redesigned in the image of 7-11.

The Gundam model, named “G RX-78 Ver.G30th Seven Eleven Color,” was modeled after an actual 7-11 shop, complete with a 7-11 shield and sign that looks like it was ripped right out from the concrete. On the other hand, the Zaku model had its color changed to resemble the 7-11 staff uniform. Both figurines go for 1365 yen (18 USD) and are available for purchase at 7-11 stores throughout the country.

In Japan, the figurines have been met with surprisingly favorable reception from Gundam-loving 2ch users, and we imagine that many collectors will be stopping in at their local 7-11 to pick up a pair while supplies last.

There certainly are less dignified products to come out of Mobile Suit crossovers, to say the least.
