A Dutch man was caught attempting to smuggle live hummingbirds from French Guiana into Brazil by taping them to the inside of his pants.

The man was detained at Rochambeau airport in Guiana’s capital of Cayenne while attempting to make his way through customs.

The customs officer at the airport explains: “There was something suspicious about the shape of his crotch, and when we searched him we found hummingbirds.”

It is said the man did not refuse a body search upon being stopped by officials.

A total of 12 humming birds weighing 2 – 20 grams were wrapped up tightly in cloth to restrict movement and stuffed into small pockets stitched to the inside of his pants like a cruel avian holster.

When found, the birds were apparently not under anesthesia and were fully conscious – and likely thoroughly confused as well.

Thankfully, all 12 hummingbirds extracted from the man’s underpants sustained no noticeable injuries, though being rolled up and restrained against the warm crotch of a Dutch man trying to kidnap you is a fate we would not wish upon any man or beast.
