In recent years, sushi has quickly become the most popular Japanese food outside of Japan.

It is against this backdrop of rapid sushi globalization that Japanese film director Noboru Iguchi, the mastermind behind such cult horror classics as RoboGeisha and Mutant Girls Squad, dares to ask the question: what if sushi grew fangs and tried to eat us?

Enter Dead Sushi.

On February 21, Iguchi released the trailer for the film to YouTube.

The trailer had received more than 180,000 views only 10 days after it had been uploaded, and the majority of the comments posted were in English, suggesting that the movie has been getting more publicity overseas than in Japan.

Of course, it’s easy to think that Iguchi may be catering his brand of “only in Japan” nonsense directly to the foreign audience—you know, with the hilarious Engrish voice over and all.

…that is intentional…right?

Regardless, the trailer promises “Sushi Action!”, “Sushi Violence!” and even “Sushi Erotica!”

That last one comes as no surprise, seeing as before he began his proper film career, Iguchi worked in the adult video industry, directing a number of ground-breaking titles including Enema Shame Zone 13 and Hyper Trophy Genitals Girl. And if you watch the trailer through the end, you can even see a sample of what exactly “Sushi Erotica” looks like.

Best Picture nominee 2013, hands down, RocketNews called it first.
