Some people go to such great lengths to snap the perfect Facebook profile picture that it could probably be considered a new branch of amateur photography.

And who could blame them? After all, we’re only given 125×125 pixels to compose our visual greeting to the ‘un-friended’ world and, as Chief Sitting Bull said before the Battle of Little Bighorn, “Can’t go to war without my war paint on.”

Yet while it’s only natural we would want to put our best out there, there are some people who slather themselves with so much makeup that their profile picture seems like a desperate rejection of the face they were born with.

A recent thread on Chinese message board site tt.mop.cn introduces a number of profile pictures taken from an online dating site and compares them side-by-side with the user’s unpainted face.

Following the images is a flood of comments, most of which fall between “I don’t believe anything anymore” and “AHHHHHH!!”

Indeed, the differences between the images in some of the sets are so striking that it’s hard to believe we’re being shown the same person.

We understand that the girls in these pictures are just trying to show their cute side and aren’t intentionally trying to deceive male viewers. Still, guys may want to keep these images in mind the next time they’re scanning the online personals.

We think Aristotle put it best when he said: “don’t believe everything you see on the internet!”
