The Japanese internet is currently engulfed in debate over a startling new technological discovery: the iPhone headphone jack smells like pineapple.

It started with a thread on popular internet message board 2chan titled: “That place on the iPhone where you plug the earphones in smells like pineapple.”

The news quickly spread through news blogs and the Japanese Twitterverse as the thread expanded with people confirming the claim.

“It’s more pineappley than I had imagined!” exclaims one user.

Another user admits: “I thought this was trolling until I actually tried it! The smell is even stronger while charging!”

A few also reported a similar fragrance coming from the volume control buttons, and one user reported the smell is compatible with Android phones as well.
