Justin Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez arrived at Tokyo’s Narita Airport on Monday local time to a crowd of about 600 screaming Japanese fans armed with their smartphones and ready to snap up pictures of the 18-year-old Canadian pop-star and post them to Twitter (because that’s what Japanese girls do).

After enjoying a free day in Tokyo on Monday, Bieber appeared on popular daytime variety show Waratte Iitomo where he became the first foreign musical artist to appear on the popular “Telephone Shocking” corner since the show began airing 30 years ago.

During the show he also ate a sushi lunch prepared by a top-class sushi chef, which he chowed down on with his bare hands instead of using chopsticks (the Japanese people were so infatuated with Bieber’s love of sushi that they didn’t care).

Justin is scheduled to appear on television again later in the week to promote his new album, Believe.
