You know something’s a hit when people all over the world are taking to their keyboards to express their amazement and tweeting the links like the internet’s about to be switched off.
Created by music group Ongaku Unit and featuring the vocal talents of hugely-popular voice actor and singer Megumi Nakajima, the video, titled “Transfer”, has already found much love abroad, with many claiming that the video is nothing short of “a revolution” and “the future of music videos”.

In terms of plot, the video features little more than a young girl leaving her house and running through her town. But it’s the mix of animation and synchoronzation of the music that is winning the video so many fans around the globe.
The girl, whom it must be said is wearing some rather fancy underpants, steps out of her home and sprints down the street. Dodging an old lady sprinkling water on the ground (she’s not just being mean- this is a common practice in summer in Japan to cool the air), our heroine bounds forward before launching herself up into the air in a style not reminiscent of animation classic The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
This is without a doubt a video that you ought to see for yourselves, but the RocketNews24 team at the very least were completely captivated for the entire 6 minutes of the video’s playback.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the reactions to the video from around the world so far:
- “What on earth is this!? It’s awesome!” (US)
- “I can’t believe how good this is.” (Estonia)
- “Wow. This is going to be big. No- huge.” (Canada)
- “Beautiful.” (UK)
- “I absolutely adore this.” (Norway)
- “One of the best videos ever made.” (Indonesia)
- “Haha, this is how every kid in Japan runs to school!” (US)
As well as featuring an enormous variety of artistic styles, the video also contains glimpses of iconic scenes from Japan, including Kaminari-mon (lit. Thunder Gate) in Asakusa, the newly built Sky Tree tower, and glimpses of Tokyo from different time periods including samurai battles and streets from the much more recent Showa period.
We don’t know how much time went into the production of this video, but the makers deserve all the praise they get.
