We’ve all seen bank vaults in movies and on TV. But when you think about it, there aren’t many people in the world who have actually used or gone into the real thing.
As luck would have it a chance to rent your very own bank vault has popped up as a listing on the Real Tokyo Estate website.
Of course for anyone interested renting in a bank safe the three most important things are location, location, and location. This vault is no exception being located in downtown Tokyo, just minutes away from several stations.
It’s a spacious safe with 26.11 m2 of floor space including the lobby and safe with three chambers. The safe door is the real deal with one of those spinning handles and is dozens of centimeters thick.
Security? This thing puts the “safe” back in, uh, safe. Aside from the giant steel door, there are iron bars, shutters, and safe deposit boxes all over the place. It’s also monitored by the SECOM security. According to Real Tokyo Estate, the previous tenant was in the jewelry business.
The vault is located on the basement floor of a building which used to hold an undisclosed bank back in 1991.
If I rented it I would just try to crack into it every day. Unfortunately, the rent is exorbitantly set at 207,375 yen (US$2,200), probably to keep nudnicks like me out.
