A shocking report came out of China earlier this week in which an official government news corporation released more than 30 photographs via two of its major news outlets “revealing” the suffering of a young woman being executed by lethal injection. Little explanation was given aside from the news bulletin’s title, “Photo Compilation of Female Convict’s Execution,” so it’s unclear what reaction the writers of the news post were hoping for. All we do know is that the source of the images is actually an adult fetish site, rather than some kind of state-run penitentiary.

That’s right. China’s official news source appears to have mistaken porn for capital punishment.

Two different news outlets for China’s Communist Party released these altogether shocking photos to the public: the official news site, Xinhua, and the Global Times, part of the People’s Daily Report news bulletin. In these posts nearly 40 pictures of a so-called execution were brought to light.

The scene begins with a young woman, presumably Western, being forcibly led into a sterile, white room and strapped securely to a gurney. A man in a lab coat handles the woman roughly as he appears to administer an injection. Following that, the woman’s face turns to absolute anguish, and she thrashes about violently. The convulsions cause her dress to come undone, nearly exposing her breasts by the time she falls still.

The scene is quite chilling, or it would be if it could be believed. The pain that appears on the woman’s face appears legitimate. If someone didn’t know better, they could easily be convinced that this is the way executions are carried out in other countries. Luckily, a group of very special fetishists were able to recognize the scene from a foreign porn video. Quick to point out this rather embarrassing misunderstanding, news of the unfortunate flub spread rapidly through social media outlets until it was picked up by major Western news sites for world-wide release. The original article has now been deleted, but neither Xinhua nor the Global Times have yet offered up any explanation or apology.

Here’s what Chinese net users had to say about the misinformation:

“Oh man! That’s too embarrassing!!”
“They broadcast a fake?!”
“Did it again…”
“Hey, I’ve seen this video! It’s totally porn!”
“Is it not a crime to post not only false information, but such obscene material?!”
“I don’t have much interest in Western pieces, but if Xinhua is recommending it, I guess I’ll give it a shot.”

All in all, China’s Netizens appear unimpressed. Perhaps there are reminded of previous false reports by their government, like when Kim Jong-un was announced as the sexiest man on the planet. Or perhaps this is more similar to the recent claim that a helicopter rendered by an Indonesian artist was actually Japan’s latest self-defense model. In any case, the truth is out now, and the only thing to be exposed was some fact checking fail and a one peculiar foreign fetish.
