This sentence is a mouthful: According to Japanese media, Chinese media is reporting that, according to German media, Chinese kids are getting a strange cosmetic surgery known as “Eiffel Tower nose” in record numbers in order to get ahead in their careers.

Despite the fact that we have no idea what “Eiffel Tower nose” is, it is apparently a surgery so extreme that some Chinese college graduates feel it helps set them apart visually from others in the job race.

Reports suggest a well-known cosmetic surgery clinic in Chongqing City is advertising nose jobs that recreate the curvature of the famous Parisian structure, with results so pleasing that word has reached to other far-flung Chinese cities, where residents are asking for the operation by name.

A possible explanation for the increased interest in this bizarre surgery is that, over the last 10 years, numbers of Chinese college graduates have inflated exponentially while job opportunities have remained relatively stable, leading some to believe that having a nose so huge it knocks an interviewer’s picture frames right off his desk is apparently a desirable feature in a job candidate.
