We’ve found the perfect snack to go with those cat marshmallow lattes! The best match for a cup of hot coffee or cocoa with a cute cat floating in it has to be hotcakes loaded with little wandering kitties! The best (or worst) part is, those cats aren’t just decorations, they’re completely edible! More pictures after the jump!

A Japanese housewife, Caroline, creates these lovable cat-themed sweets annually on Cat’s Day (that’s on 22 February in Japan). She started off with making cat shaped nerikiri, a traditional Japanese sweet made by mixing shiro-an (sweetened white bean paste) with gyuhi (made of glutinous rice, similar to mochi but softer), then tinted and sculpted into various shapes and styles.

Dorayaki (Japanese pancakes that usually come with red bean paste filling) with cat nerikiri.

In recent years, Caroline’s daughter, Laura, got into making sugar craft, and contributes to the Cat’s Day special sweets with adorable creations of her own.
(Just in case you’re wondering, the names Caroline and Laura were apparently borrowed from the family’s favorite novel series The Little House on the Prairie.)

Now the only question is, to eat or not to eat? Unfortunately, these adorable sweets were made by Carolina for her family and they’re not available for purchase. Oh well, they’re so cute, we couldn’t bear to eat them anyway!
