Remember Megumi Igarashi, the Japanese artist who shot to infamy after being arrested for sharing “obscene” 3-D data of her genitals online? Of course you do! Well today as a special treat we thought we’d share some photos of her enjoying the kayak she originally used that self-same data to make.

Well, it’s Friday isn’t it?

Igarahi, also known as Rokudenashiko or “good-for-nothing girl”, turned to Japanese crowdfunding site Campfire in June last year to generate the cash to make a special kayak modelled on her own vagina. The artist claimed that the project was intended as a statement against discrimination and an effort to break taboos surrounding the female form.

Here she is in her original Campfire pitch. It’s all in Japanese, but she helpfully uses lots of pictures, so we’re sure you’ll have no trouble following along!

Using a 3-D scanner, Igarashi was able to commission a boat whose hull closely resembled her own vulva, of course documenting the process along the way…

▼ “Say cheese! Actually, please don’t…”

▼ Igarashi examines the scan. We’d rather not know what she’s pointing at here.

▼ For anyone who’s concerned, that gaping hole is a part of the kayak’s design.

▼ It wasn’t long before the kayak arrived and the special, ahem, opening was attached.

▼ Ready to sail!

▼ It certainly looks like Igarashi had fun. We doubt local fishermen were quite as pleased.

Of course, while it may not be to everyone’s tastes, Igarashi’s kayak itself isn’t what landed her in trouble with the law. Authorities left the artist well enough alone until she made the mistake of releasing the 3-D data used to make the top section of the kayak to those who funded the project, which due to its “source material”, shall we say, is prohibited by Japanese law.

So what have we learned from this ordeal, boys and girls? Vagina boats are A-OK, but if you even think about sharing the how-to guide you’ll end up in seriously hot water.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
