Girls, have you ever been put off from the army because their uniforms just aren’t cute enough? Well here’s your answer: a KanColle-inspired corset that’s made–to–order!

Rei Narumiya is a fashion designer who specializes in leather goods and corsets leather and also photographs ruined buildings as a hobby. In her profile she tells us that she’s a blood type AB who describes herself as male on the inside. You can see her fashion designs on her website here and her photography here.

Judging by her portfolio she’s not necessarily an anime fan, but she recently came up with a new design that aligns perfectly with the trend of kawaii-ifying instruments of war and death that has captured the hearts of otaku the world over thanks to KanColle. The design in question is a military-inspired corset, and she posted photographs of it styled as a full outfit to her Twitter account.

She then wrote, “This piece is a sample for photographs, but if there’s a demand for it then I can make to order.” And demand there was. The original tweet was favourited by nearly 20,000 people and retweeted nearly 13,000 times. Rei was surprised by the speedy and enthusiastic response to her costume, and immediately started drawing up a price list and asked for input from followers. The costume is now available for order on her website at the following prices:

Corset 31,000 yen (US$266) ~
Skirt 20,000 yen (US$171) ~
Magazine pouch 4,000 yen (US$34) ~

All prices are without tax. They can be ordered to size for no extra cost. The weapons shown in the picture are not included.

In other words the full outfit will set you back at least 55,000 yen (US$470), and you’ll also have to get yourself some (replica) weapons too. However, remember that this is a real corset from someone who knows what they’re doing, so it’s going to be made of sturdy stuff and can be tied up tight. Going into battle barely able to breathe is worth it so long as you look totally kawaii.

“Through this I’ve learned just how many girls there are who like military stuff.”
