Sailor Moon fans have been waiting for this a very long time — more than 20 years, in fact!

The launch of the first ever official Sailor Moon fan club, the “Pretty Guardians“, was recently announced on the Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Project Official Site.

According to the information available so far, the fan club will offer membership benefits such as invitations to character birthday events and priority tickets to the Sailor Moon musical. They’ll also have exclusive fan club items, including specially designed membership cards and lip gloss that comes in an expertly crafted Sailor Moon-themed case. The fan club will be taking membership applications starting on March 15.

▼ The membership card comes with a beautiful illustration from the hugely popular bonus supplements to Nakayoshi magazine back when the series was being serialized monthly in the 1990s.

▼ Fan club members will also receive this “Make-up Lip Gloss“, made in the form of the magical transformation brooch.

They’ve also announced that they’ll be offering more original Sailor Moon goods in the future, some expected to be nostalgic recreations of bonus items that came with long-ago issues of Nakayoshi magazine, as well as  members-only content on the official Sailor Moon app.

There will also be a special event on April 10 to celebrate the start of the fan club at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum in Sendagaya. The members-only bash will include commemorative gift giveaways and appearances by voice actors Kototno Mitsuishi who plays Usagi/Sailor Moon and Kenji Kojima who plays Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask and even idol group Momoiro Clover Z, who performed the theme song for the new Sailor Moon Crystal anime that began airing in 2014.

If any of you in Japan are interested, you may want to know that you’ll need to specifically apply for fan club membership “with the Fan Club Event ticket” between March 15 and March 31 to participate in the April 10 event. That’s about all the information that has been released for now, but more details should be announced on the site as they become available.

Fans who have enjoyed the series from its days in Nakayoshi magazine may feel a fan club is long overdue, but we guess this is certainly a case of better late than never! We have a feeling there will be plenty of Sailor Moon followers eager to join the “Pretty Guardians” come March 15, because hey, deep down inside, who doesn’t want to be a pretty guardian?
