The Japanese band White Jam have created a surprisingly good Christmas version of the now world-famous PPAP song.

White Jam have gone to great lengths to recreate Japanese comedian Kosaka Daimaou’s “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” hit in the form of a romantic Christmas song and they’ve absolutely nailed it. Unsurprisingly, the official YouTube video has reached around one million views in the last couple of weeks.

You can see the full version of the PPAP Christmas Version here:

Who would have thought a song about a pineapple-apple pen could be so heartfelt? If it wasn’t for the ridiculous lyrics, one could imagine this song being played at the most romantic spots around Tokyo on Christmas Eve (Christmas Eve is famous for couples in Japan going on a date).

▼ Who wins the romantic battle? Apple or pineapple?

White Jam’s PPAP Christmas Version has a very soothing melody inspired by the original tune and comes complete with a rap bridge. The music video is also of high quality, with a romantic storyline leaving us wondering if the girl will choose pineapple boy or apple boy.

Here is what people have been saying about the video online:

“This was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen with my own two eyeballs. I cried. Every time. Thank you for creating this beautiful musical art.”
“I want to play this on my guitar, I wish they would give a tutorial for this wonderful cover.”
“What do they mean by: ‘I have a pen tonight’?”
“Still a better love story than ‘Twilight’.”
“I almost cry with the melody but I stop when I realize that it is PPAP!”

It sure must take incredible musical talent to take a song about a pineapple-apple pen and turn it into something that is genuinely giving people the feels.

Not only has the PPAP song been made into a Christmas song but Ryuk, the Shinigami “Death Spirit” from the Death Note hit movie franchise, has also been dancing up a storm in his very own version of the PPAP music video. And if you still haven’t had enough PPAP you can also visit the PPAP Cafe in Tokyo.

Hopefully this latest romantic version of PPAP will be available in karaoke bars in time for Christmas! What do you think about the song? Would you sing this with your friends at Christmas?
