Can’t stop staring at this model’s chest? The reason might be mathematical.

In the crowded Japanese gurabia idol industry, Hiroshima native Nanoka has done a couple of things to differentiate herself from other popular models who dress in swimwear and other skimpy outfits. She’s a passionately outspoken fan of the Hiroshima Carp professional baseball team, periodic Maid Day cosplay participant, and was also part of the Armor Beauty TV series, in which weekly guests donned, then stripped off, replicas of armor worn by historical samurai warlords.

As is the norm for those in her line of work, Nanoka is quite busty. It’s safe to say that many of her fans’ eyes are drawn to her chest, even when she’s not directing extra attention to it with subtle melon metaphors.

And yet, it could be that the secret to Nanoka’s success isn’t the result of two attractive spheres, but instead an aesthetically pleasing rectangle.

▼ That’s…hot?

The staff of Japan’s Weekly Playboy magazine recently completed an exhaustive search through the publication’s last 10 years’ worth of issues, searching for a model with a rather specific physicality. Specifically, they wanted to find a model whose bust dimensions match those of the golden ratio, the mathematical relationship that frequently appears in the worlds of natural science, architecture, and visual art.

The researchers found what they were looking for in Nanoko’s chest, officially recognizing her as having a “golden ratio bust.”

▼ I’m now having trouble remembering how I ever found geometry class boring in high school.

Where will the golden ratio show up next, and is there indeed a correlation between it and exposed skin in Japan? Only time will tell.
