The cute and delicious treat is only available for a limited time.

Fast food joints in Japan love to collaborate with big name anime franchises, bringing out exclusive, limited-edition toys and treats from well-known series like Doraemon, Yokai Watch and Pokémon.

Now KFC is melting customers’ hearts for a limited time with their latest collaboration, which features the star character from Sanrio’s  Cinnamoroll series.

The main character Cinnamon is an adorable blue-eyed white puppy with a tail that resembles a plump cinnamon roll. In the series, his long ears help him to fly through the sky, steering him towards the scent of freshly baked cinnamon rolls at a bakery called Cafe Cinnamon, where he meets up with an equally cute cast of furry friends for lots of fun and adventures.

In honour of Cinnamoroll’s 15th anniversary, KFC Japan is celebrating in the best way possible: with Cinnamon’s beloved cinnamon roll, served up in a beautifully adorned box for a limited time.

Priced at just 250 yen (US$2.26) each, we were curious to find out what a Cinnamoroll cinnamon roll would taste like, so we headed out to our nearest branch to get our hands on one. When we arrived, Sanrio’s cute pastel images greeted us at the entrance and on walls and signboards inside, showing off the delicious-looking iced sweet.

▼ As soon as we received our order,
we couldn’t tear our eyes away from the gorgeous packaging.

The box was small enough to hold in one hand, but despite its petite size, there was a whole lot of cute on display with a pink-and-white cafe curtain trim, and explosions of tiny love hearts around the words “Cinnamoroll’s Cinnamon Roll”.

There are also instructions for reheating in the microwave, to really enjoy the sweet at peak deliciousness.

Cinnamon can also be seen giving a wink as he puts the finishing touches on his beloved cinnamon roll for you, complete with a KFC staff member cap.

Now it’s time for the unboxing…

Inside the box was a palm-sized cinnamon roll, which looked crispy and brown on the outside.

Biting into it, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the pastry was beautifully soft and chewy inside, with a slight crunch from the sugary spirals of icing on top. While the roll was sweet, the taste of cinnamon was the star here, creating a delicious spicy tribute to the Cinnamoroll series.

The Sanrio-inspired cinnamon roll will only be available at KFC for a limited time, and for those who want more Cinnamoroll, the “Smile Sets” come complete with character toys for a limited time too.
