No more sticky hands or melted puddles necessary.
Ah, popsicles. When you’re a kid, there’s nothing better to help cool off on a hot summer day. Unfortunately though, as we get older, a lot of the popsicle’s features start to become more cumbersome than enjoyable: the stick gets all sticky when you hold it, the juice can drip on the floor if you’re not careful, it can take an annoyingly long time to soften up, and then, if you bite it, you get a one-way ticket to brain-freeze city.
Thankfully, Japanese Twitter recently came up with an alternative way of enjoying one of Japan’s favorite popsicles: Gari Gari Kun. These rectangle-shaped popsicles are known for their outrageous flavors and low price, making them popular with kids.
But here’s a new, fancier way of eating them that’s getting adults just as excited:

“To everyone dying of summer heat, here’s a way to make Gari Gari Kun popsicles taste even better. Fill a glass 1/3 full with no-sugar carbonated water, and break the popsicle into it using just a spoon. It’s like a sherbert gelato that’ll make you smack your lips. Perfect for an after-bath snack!”
That’s… a really good idea! It has all the deliciousness of a popsicle without the sticky hands, spills, or pained teeth after biting into frozen ice too hard.
We weren’t the only ones to think that. Japanese Twitter immediately responded with enthusiasm:

Seeing all this got us thinking we had to try it too. Se we immediately went out and bought a Gari Gari Kun, some carbonated water, and set to work to rekindle our love with popsicles.
▼ The holy trifecta assembled, we were ready for business.
▼ First, we put the Gari Gari Kun somewhat awkwardly into the glass.
▼ Second, we filled the glass 1/3 full with carbonated water.
Be careful not to fill it too much or it might become too watery.
▼ Third, we smashed it with a spoon and removed the stick when possible.
▼ And finally, the moment of truth. How did it taste?
▼ Really good, actually! The carbonated water melted the Gari Gari Kun just
enough to not be super hard, but still leaving a satisfying (and cooling) crunch.

(or your floor) when you’re done eating it!
While we only tried it out with the original soda-flavored Gari Gari Kun, we assume the same process would work with most popsicles, so go ahead and experiment to see what your favorite popsicles from your childhood turn into!
This fancier way of eating popsicles is perfect for when you’re having trouble beating the summer heat, though it could also be a nice way to soothe yourself after failing to eat a 2000-calorie cheeseburger too.
