This is what happens when one of the country’s most adulated cosplayers makes an appearance at a cosplay convention.

Back in 2016, Japanese cosplayer Enako blew everyone’s minds by announcing on television that she earns more than one million yen (US$9,700) a month through cosplay.

The professional cosplayer went on to reveal that she can earn up to 400,000 yen for live appearances, and when she sells her photo collections at Comiket, Japan’s semiannual independent comics event, Enako can earn 10 million yen in just two days, which is more than what most people make in a year.

Given her immense popularity, it should come as no surprise that Enako has an ardent group of devoted followers, but even then, nobody could predict the chaos that the 23-year-old cosplayer would cause when she turned up at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan on 5 August.

Enako initially revealed that she would be appearing at the Summit via her official Twitter account on the morning of 5 August, saying she would be dressed as virtual YouTuber Kizuna Ai.

Take a look at the video below to see the virtual schoolgirl in her introductory video as host of A.I.Channel on YouTube.

As soon as Enako was spotted at the venue in Aichi, Nagoya Prefecture, fans rushed towards her, encircling her with cameras in hand, capturing all her cute poses with photos that were quickly shared on social media.

The star, who was at the centre of a ring of snap-hapy fans, received the same amount of attention as a Hollywood celebrity.

Some photographers were disappointed they couldn’t capture better images of the star, given the jostling of the crowd they had to contend with.

Despite the huge crowd of people that gathered, thankfully fans were able to maintain an orderly sense of pandemonium, maintaining a respectful distance from the star, although they still managed to block thoroughfares with their zeal to capture a photo of Enako in her Kizuna Ai costume.

Enako enjoyed cosplaying as the virtual YouTuber, posting these photos on her Twitter account shortly after her appearance.

Her fun and spirited poses even inspired some cute fan art following the event.

Fans who want to see more of Enako will be happy to know her next appearance is coming up this weekend, where she’ll be present at different locations over three days at Summer Comiket from 11-13 August.

If you’d like to see Enako in person, be sure to head down to the venue at Tokyo Big Sight at Odaiba from this Friday. Before you go, though, you might want to read up on your Comiket survival guide and don’t forget to pack your camera!
