Road shut down in China by hundreds of people who mistakenly thought they were picking up gold dust

There is an interesting phenomenon that we’ve seen in a few stories out of China. It appears sometimes when a transport vehicle spills some of its cargo, a group of people comes out of the woodwork to grab some of whatever landed on the road be it baby chickens, crabs, oranges, or grapes.

However, this time there’s gold in them thar spillages which of course led to sticky fingers on an unprecedented level. However, if anyone happened to notice a disturbance in the force recently, it was probably the sound of 100 or so voices crying out at once upon learning that their booty was not actually gold but something far stinkier.

Locals and visitors feel Xi’an garbage cans to be “a little much”

Excessive cleanliness has erupted on a garden path from the Bell Tower of Xi’an to a shopping district as 10 identical trash bins appeared on a single 50-meter (164ft) stretch.

This act of unusual urban planning has left residents such as one Ms. Wu to exclaim: “A trash can for every freakin’ bench! What luxury!”

Located about 120 kilometers outside of the city of Huayin, Shaanxi province, Mount Hua is one of China’s Five Great Mountains. Certainly beautiful, the mountain has historically been a religious retreat for “strong-willed” monks able to find “the way” to the top on narrow pathways alongside gut-churning drops.

With tourism now booming in a more affluent China, the government has worked to improve access to the top of the mountain by widening the trail, adding railings and safety chains, and in general working to prevent hikers from experiencing a quick, unplanned descent to the bottom.
