Mimi-kaki: We let a total stranger stick things inside us at an ear-cleaning salon【Video】

Akihabara is considered by many to be a holy land of otaku culture, and with good reason. From anime to electronics to maid cafes, there’s not much you can’t find here. You can even pay someone to clean your ears! Which, to this writer, sounds absolutely horrifying. The idea of a total stranger getting inside my ear canal and scraping out all the gunk is both gross and horrifying, mainly because I can’t stop imagining the ear cleaner slipping and driving the ear-pick deep into my brain.

And that’s probably exactly why the RocketNews24 editors chose me to try it out! If you’ve ever wanted to have a young woman lay your head in her lap and then scrape the wax out of your ears, here’s your chance to see what it’s like.

Guerrilla musicians wow YouTubers with expert playing in…electronics stores?

If you’ve ever stepped foot inside a music store, you’ve no doubt seen at least one overly-confident person wailing away at a guitar or piano, just to “test it out” with plenty of people around. While they’re usually better than the rest of us, you also can’t help feeling a bit of embarrassment for anyone who’s getting into it a just a little too much.

But a pair of videos making the rounds in Japan has won a group of three keyboardists plenty of attention — and praise — for their covers of famous Yellow Magic Orchestra songs. Partly because they were performed guerrilla-style in electronics stores!

What would Doraemon look like with more decapitations? Something like this video

Many overseas anime fans don’t get their first introduction to the medium until they’re in their teens, and most are initially startled by how much more comfortable Japanese animation is than its western counterpart when it comes to depicting graphic violence in shows aimed at that age set. Still, it’s not like every popular cartoon in Japan is a gore fest. For example, perennial hit Sazae-san has over 7,000 episodes, and not one of them features its middle-class family maiming each other by firing energy blasts from their hands or the beam rifle of a giant robot.

Likewise, the Doraemon franchise, about a young boy and his loveable robot cat companion, is relatively free of dismemberment…but not entirely, as this video of one of the characters losing a key body part during a live performance shows.

Japan has a zillion proverbs involving cats, probably because cats are awesome and add flavour and colour to everything in life. Possibly the biggest ever marriage proposal made with Post-it notes!

Is it just me or does everyone seem to be going to great pains to propose these days? It’s almost as if nine out of ten proposals I see on my Facebook feed are done either while on an overseas vacation, or completed with the help of a dozens of people and involving some kind of coordinated event.

For the record, I’m not against huge marriage proposals. If it makes the couple happy then it’s the best way it should be done, but on a totally personal level, I think a proposal is an extremely private affair that should be kept between the couple. However, I am a sucker for creative ideas, and sometimes, some really creative proposals do make me wish that I was proposed to in such a memorable manner. Like this three-storey-tall Post-it proposal that was made possible with 250 Post-it “elves”!

Actress’ incredible swing in new Toyota commercial has people talking 【Video】

In Toyota’s newest commercial, the downtown area of a small city is turned into a massive baseball arena, where manholes are bases, the simple push of a button brings anyone into play, and pretty much anything goes. It’s a really fun watch, to say the least, and has already been viewed over six million times on YouTube.

Being a commercial, obviously most of what you see is fabricated by the film crew and enhanced with “movie magic”, but there is still a lot of raw talent to be seen, most notably from the actress in the final scene, whose killer swing has gotten her a lot of attention.
