Police in Saitama City announced that they arrested 22-year-old, Yusuke Sakurai, for allegedly burglarizing homes for cash. However, the money was secondary to his far creepier main objective: cutting off women’s clothes with a pair of scissors while they slept.

The police believe he was involved in at least two incidents, but suspect that there may have been as many as four or five others all in the same city. Sakurai would allegedly wander around looking for places with unlocked doors. Upon finding one, he would check if a young woman lived there by the shoes laid out by the entrance. On 10 April he found the unlocked entrance to the residence of a woman in her twenties. After pocketing 10,000 yen (US$101), he found a pair of scissors and then proceeded to allegedly cut apart the clothing of the victim as she slept. However, when the woman felt the scissors touching her body she woke up, causing the suspect to flee the scene.

A few days later he struck again, cutting up the clothes of a sleeping teenager with her own scissors after snatching 12,000 yen (US$121). However, during this invasion he was apprehended by police. According to police, Sakurai confessed to the crimes, saying he got the idea from a video he saw, admitting, “I cut off ladies’ clothes because I wanted to see them naked.”  He also said that he used the money for living expenses which presumably included the internet bill for watching pervy videos.

Sakurai is currently being held on a number of charges including theft and non-violent sexual assault.
