With the announcement by Japan’s premier manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump regarding their highly anticipated smartphone app Jump Live, information has been coming out in drips and drabs about its features.

However, their most recent announcement has fans jumping for mild confusion: it’s a multimedia pasta cooking challenge between the creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hirohiko Araki and creator of Assassination Classroom Yusei Matsui.

According to a video uploaded to YouTube, Mr. Araki – a well-known Italiaphile – will prepare some pasta and create of video of its making that we can watch through the app.

Then, the dish will be given to Mr. Matsui – a well-known human who eats to survive – for tasting and evaluation. Following this Yusei Matsui will pen a jitsuroku rupo manga (factual reportage comic) which will document the event truthfully through the medium of manga. This will also be available through the app.

This announcement lit a fire under Jump fans in Japan, who took to their keyboards saying “What the f*#k?” and “This makes no sense whatsoever.” Despite the confusing and unanticipated announcement’s impact on fans most readily agreed, “it does look interesting” even if it’s “unnecessarily entertaining.”

So if you want to see who comes out on top… Eh, I think someone is supposed to win this thing.

Okay! If you want to see whether Yusei Matsui likes Hirohiko Araki’s… no, of course he’s going to like it. How can you screw up making pasta? It’s the easiest thing to make.

Right then, if you want to see one heavyweight of manga cook for another superstar of the art in two different forms of media, be sure to download the Jump Live app when it comes out next month!
