bat top

Yarisugi is a Japanese word that means overkill or something done to excess. It’s the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the realistic replica of the Christopher Nolan-era Batmobile announced by Premium Bandai this week. Not because they’ve copied the vehicle in minute detail, as you can see in the image above, but because it is, in fact, an iPhone case.

The Crazy Case Batmobile Tumbler, as they are calling it, is available for pre-order for 5,775 yen (about US$57) and will be released in March next year.

The tires are spring-loaded to jut out just like in the movie, the lights flash when the docked phone receives a call, and best of all, with the press of a button, you can make a Batsignal shoot out of the back! No doubt this will come in handy if you are every waylaid in a dark alley by the Joker.

Despite all these bells and whistles, the case is guaranteed not to interfere with the regular operation of your phone or its camera. That’s some engineering even Lucian Fox would approve of.

So if you’ve got a Batman superfan on your shopping list this Christmas, consider setting them up with a pre-order for this actually-a-toy iPhone case. I’m sure the first thought when they see it will just be WOW!
