A few months ago, we brought you news that Japanese developer Spike Chunsoft was bringing manga and anime smash Attack on Titan to Nintendo’s popular portable, 3DS. Up until now, the game seemed destined to remain a Japan-only affair, but rumour has it that its makers are searching for a publisher to bring the game to Western audiences. Get hype, kids!

While Nintendo’s clamshell console has a lot going for it, its parent company’s antiquated way of thinking means that gamers are unable to buy or download games from regions other than the one in which they originally purchased their 3DS. For most, this is little more than a minor irritation and a sign that Nintendo should get with the times and go region-free like its competitors, but anime fans in particular often feel the sting of region locking as games based on their favourite series are either late to release in the West or never see the light of day outside Japan.

Thankfully, Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind (or Shingeki no Kyojin ~ Hangeki no Tsubasa in Japan) developer Spike Chunsoft realises its game’s potential to sell well the West, and according to a Siliconera report is actively seeking a publisher to release it in North America.

The 3DS game launched in Japan in December last year, selling a massive 93,000 copies in its first week alone, and continues to sell well to this day. We can only imagine how huge the title could be if Spike Chunsoft is successful in its search for a Western publisher. Heck, we’ll publish it ourselves if no one else has the nous to spot a giant smash like this when it lumbers in front of them…
