It was back in the summer of 2012 when “Gangnam Style” was released. Thanks in part to YouTube, the single transformed South Korean rapper PSY into a worldwide pop phenomenon. But nothing lasts forever, and although it had a remarkably good run on the charts, general interest in the mega-hit gradually waned.

Since then, PSY has been hard at work coming up with other singles such as “Gentleman” and “Hangover”, but neither have captivated the public’s interest to the same degree. It’s a hard degree to surpass, however, as in just the past week, “Gangnam Style” reached number one again on the Billboard charts. This surely comes as bittersweet news to PSY who by now has got to be completely burnt out on performing that song over and over… and over again.

Granted “Gangnam Style” is actually only topping the “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs” chart in particular, but that’s still no small feat to accomplish. It just goes to show how much the entire globe continues to embrace those catchy beats and kooky dances.

However, PSY has got to be hoping his follow-ups get at least near the level of attention as “Gangnam Style”. It’s not for the fame or money, although those are certainly great reasons. It’s more that the guy would certainly like to have one concert where he didn’t have to perform that song.

You could argue that going to a PSY show and not hearing his mega-hit would be a lot like going to a Prince concert and having him smack you in the back of the head and take your wallet. It would just be a bummer and PSY knows that, so he performs it like the nice guy he is no matter how much he’d like to take a break from it.

Currently, PSY is in Korea shooting his newest video for the song “Daddy”. Normally, this would seem like a good opportunity to say let’s help the guy out by listening or purchasing it online, but I’m poor and lazy so screw it. Dude’s got enough money. Let him be another Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Los del Rio. We should all be so lucky.

In fact here’s the video for “Gangnam Style”. Just give it a play and relive the magical autumn of 2012 while keeping this puppy on the top of the charts for years to come. Together, we can make no difference at all!
