The Superconducting Magnetic Levitation Train (SCMaglev) has been in development by Japan Railways for decades and has already broken various world speed records for railed vehicles during test runs. However, it won’t begin operation in Japan until 2027.

That is unless you are one of the lucky few chosen for a series of test runs being conducted in November and December of this year. If you apply by midnight on 30 September you’ll get a chance to ride the train of the future today! What are you waiting for?! Go!

Actually, wait! There’s some useful information you should probably read here first. Then go!

Seating is limited, so passengers will be chosen by lottery from all of the applicants. The schedule and details of the test runs conducted on the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line are as follows:

Test Ride Schedule
Dates
November 13, 14, 18, 19
December 4, 5, 9, 10
Times
Three times a day – 11:05, 13:35, 15:05
Seating
50 compartments (100 seats)
Fare

Applicants must be over 16 years old and reside in Japan. Anyone over the age of 12 may ride in the place of the applicant. If a passenger is under the age of seven they must be accompanied by someone over 16.

When you apply you must select your top three desired times and dates to ride. Those selected to ride the SCMaglev will be contacted by mid-October. Remember the deadline to apply is 11:59pm JST on 30 September. Act now because this rare chance will pass you by faster than a linear synchronous motor driven train. Yeah, that fast.
