For years, fast food chain Lotteria has reigned supreme as the tried-and-tested purveyor of the loveable monstrosity known as the Tower Burger. Now it’s shouldering up to some heavy competition, as Japan’s most successful home-grown burger franchise, Mos Burger, is set to release a tower burger of their own. And it’s all in celebration of the opening of their newest location at Tokyo Tower.

Rather than slap two buns on either side of a beef patty extravaganza, Mos Burger has decided to deliver a whopping 14 layers of ingredients in what they’re calling the Tokyo Tower Burger.

For 800 yen (US$6.60), you’ll get lettuce, two layers of hot chilli sauce, mayonnaise, two meat patties, a generous slice of tomato, two layers of minced onion, ketchup, onion fries and pastrami bacon, all sandwiched in between two palm-sized buns. For those after a little something more, the Tokyo Tower Cheeseburger will be on sale for 860 yen ($7.09).

The tallest burgers ever to be released by the Japanese fast food chain will pay homage to Tokyo Tower not only in height but also in colour, with the chilli sauce and ketchup representing the famous landmark’s vibrant red hue. Available only at the new Tokyo Tower outlet from 13 March, stay tuned as we’ll be heading down on opening day to wrap our jaws around the towering beast. We’ll bring you all the delicious details this weekend, provided we survive.
