Japan has been gearing up for Halloween since the end of August, but now that we’re actually into the correct month, we feel it’s acceptable to start posting Halloween-related articles. Today we’re introducing the Halloween festivities going on at Universal Studies in Osaka, Japan.

From September 1 to November 8 you can stay in the specially prepared “Halloween horror room” at the Universal Port Hotel for a price of 13,800 yen per night, including breakfast. The room can sleep up to four brave souls over the age of 15.

The back story to the room is that 10 years ago, around when the hotel first opened, a group of women came to stay in the shiny new room. However, after one went missing, never to be seen again, the room was boarded up and entry forbidden. Even now the missing guests’ luggage remains as it was all those years ago, as do the smears of blood on the walls. The old-fashioned decorations and abandoned items in the room are designed to instil a creeping sense of fear that will only grow more intense the longer you stay; could you endure a whole night there?!

In addition, from September 9 to November 3 the official hotel restaurant, Port Dining ricorico, will have a special spooky menu, called the “Taste of Autumn and Halloween Fair Dinner Buffet”.

Along with other Fall-themed dishes, it will include:

  • Red pasta dyed with beetroot
  • Black squid ink pasta with salmon cream sauce
  • Dracula’s delicious bloody potato fries
  • “Witch’s finger” hot dogs
  • Mushroom parmesan reggiano risotto

They also have adorable Halloween desserts that are great for kids, including:

  • A “spider cake” handmade by the hotel’s patissiers
  • Ghostie cakes each with individual faces
  • Eyeball tarts

And as if that wasn’t enough, the lounge and cafe also have Halloween treats for adults to enjoy, featuring a range of creepy cocktails and sweets.

The Universal Port Hotel is also celebrating their 10th anniversary at the same time, so if the Halloween theme is a little too scary for you, you can hang out with the Minions that are currently invading the hotel lobby instead!
