They say the world looks different when you’re thinner.

Whether it’s guzzling down slimming tea or adopting a rigorous pole-dancing exercise program, people go to great lengths to shave off a few pounds.

In the endless search for effective weight loss programs, cosplayer @rikuxrikuxriku stumbled across a flyer promoting a diet program that seemed too good to be true:

On first glance, the “before” (left) and “after” (right) pictures show a dramatic transformation. The flyer further claimed that the featured lady lost 17.6 kg (38.8 pounds) over six months, reduced her body fat from 38 percent to 29 percent, and trimmed 20 centimeters (7.87 inches) off her waist size.

The stats looked impressive, and it certainly would have fooled a lot of people if not for the door that seemed to have trimmed a few inches off its width too.

With the revelation that the “after” picture was nothing more than a compressed image of the first, Japanese Twitter users chimed in with comments:

“This is so shady it’s actually funny.”
“That’s incredible! The door slimmed down more than the woman!”
“Is this an advertisement for door slimming?”
“Science is amazing nowadays. When people lose weight, rooms shrink automatically too.”
“So when is this company getting sued for fraud?”

▼ One Twitter user took the liberty of restoring the “after” image back to its original size by matching the width of the doors: (translation below)

“I’ve matched the size of the doors, and it seems that the woman did lose some weight. It’s better (for the company) not to perform any strange image modifications to maintain credibility though.”

He couldn’t have said it better. While the numbers were indeed remarkable, perhaps the company decided that her body shape didn’t change as much as they had hoped, and so opted for the “after” image to be modified for extra visual impact.

Every body is different, and weight loss does not necessarily result in extreme makeovers. But if they do require a model for their diet program, we highly recommend our very own Mr. Sato, since his before and after photos can be rather astounding.
