And his drumming seems to have an odd power over women.

Over the years, we’ve brought you a few videos of stellar drumming performances on Taiko No Tatsujin, the taiko drumming game. From people playing while facing the other way to guys really, really getting into the spirit of the game, it’s easy to think we’ve seen it all. And then, this comes along.

What we have here is a young man playing the game in two-player mode by himself, starting off backwards, and wearing a blindfold. Now, you might say, “Sure, but he turns around part-way through.” However, that turning around while he can’t see only makes things more disorientating and thus more impressive.

It’s hard to tell what song he’s playing because it is drowned out by the overall ambiance of the game center and the sound of his own drumming. If I had to venture a guess, it sounds rather like Saitama 2000 on difficult mode. Due to the tempo and mixed-up patterns, it is considered one of the more difficult tracks to play.

Since it was posted on 13 January, the video has received over three million views, 90,000 likes, and 273 comments such as:

“He makes me want to do better.”
“I laughed so hard I almost threw up.”
“I thought he was [comedian] Egashira 2:50 for a moment.”
“I get dizzy whenever I play rhythm games, I should use a blindfold too.”

However, a large number of comments were regarding the girls in the background who pop in and out of view unsure of what to do with themselves.

“He seems to be attracting girls with his playing lol.”
“After 10 or 12 seconds a girl walks in and is like, ‘What the hell is this?!’ Hahaha!”
“The girls are all running away, lol.”

Even the drummer himself, who goes by the Twitter handle Orurun, replied to the video and mentioned the girls.

▼ “I was looking through Twitter and saw myself. Much love to all the people who liked, RT, and posted the video, but while I was blindfolded and couldn’t see, the funny part was it looked like I was drawing girls towards me lol.”

Perhaps, like the one comment above, those girls all thought he was the creepy semi-nude and balding comedian Egashira 2:50 and did what any teenage girl in her right mind would do in his presence and run.

In contrast, this video from way back in 2013 shows Orurun doing the same song with a slightly different gimmick by covering the game’s screen rather than his face with an Egashira-like mask.

Passersby had a noticeably different reaction this time around. So, if you happen to see Orurun at a game center, tell him to ditch the mask. Maybe then his drumming skills will someday earn him that special player-2 in his life.
