Star Wars Takes Over Tokyo Disneyland to Celebrate Reopening of Star Tours

Star Wars Takes Over Tokyo Disneyland to Celebrate Reopening of Star Tours

Three days after every other person on the internet was posting “May the fourth be with you,” Tokyo Disneyland was flooded with Star Wars fans celebrating the grand reopening of Star Tours: the Adventures Continues. The ride offers a 3-D Star Wars experience with over 50 possible randomly selected story combinations. There’s no greater thrill than feeling as if you are rocketing through space, interacting with familiar Star Wars characters in the third dimension.

But what impressed our reporter, Tashiro-kun, the most was the fanfare that day. With around 200 Disney cast members dressed in Star Wars costume and more Disney-Star Wars merchandise than you can shake a light saber at, Tokyo Disneyland on May 7 was the place to be for Star Wars fans.

Darth Vader Head Planetarium Lulls You to Sleep Then Haunts Your Dreams

Some people like a little white noise or some relaxing music to help them sleep, but for us, sleep just won’t come unless there are epic sci-fi space battles playing out above our heads. Maybe we have a bizarrely specific type of sleep disorder.

Star Wars Location Spotting in Tunisia: Mos Espa Slave Quarters

Star Wars Location Spotting in Tunisia: Mos Espa Slave Quarters

Awhile back, we traveled to the desert planet Tatooine from the Star Wars universe—well, the set of it, at least. Scenes from several of the Star Wars movies were filmed on location in Tunisia and many of the sets and landscapes seen in the movie, such as the port city of Mos Espa and Luke Skywalker’s house, can still be visited today.

This time we’d like to share our travel report of Ksar Hadada, one of three traditional fortified granaries scattered about southern Tunisia that were used in the filming of the Slave Quarters Row of Mos Espa in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

Luke Skywalker’s Home Now a Hotel, Only $10 a Night w/ Breakfast!

Luke Skywalker’s Home Now a Hotel, Only $10 a Night w/ Breakfast!

Star Wars. Arguably the greatest space opera ever and undoubtedly the exemplar of science fiction in the minds of many.

One of the most memorable locations of the series is Tatooine, the rugged desert planet home to both Luke and Anakin Skywalker. As we shared yesterday, much of Tatooine was filmed in Tunisia and you can even still visit the set of Mos Espa, Anakin Skywalker’s hometown in Start Wars: The Phantom Menace.

But when speaking of Tatooine, surely most people think not of Anakin and Mos Espa, but of the Lars homestead, the home of Luke Skywalker before he became a Jedi Knight.

Well it turns out that’s still there too and you can actually stay the night at Luke Skywalker’s home. Needless to say, we did just that.

Star Wars Tatooine Set Pieces Still Standing in the Tunisian Desert, We Investigate

Star Wars Tatooine Set Pieces Still Standing in the Tunisian Desert, We Investigate

While Star Wars fans may dream of a future where they can board a spacecraft and travel to galaxies far, far away, it turns out that you can actually board an aircraft and travel to the set of a galaxy far, far away—which is the next best thing, right?

Four of the Star Wars movies were partially filmed in southern Tunisia and many of the sets and lanscapes are still preserved today.

We recently visited Tunisia where we booked a landspeeder (rented a car), Jedi mind-tricked our way out of security (paid the locals to show us around) and made our way to (the set of) Tatooine, the iconic homeplanet of Luke and Anakin Skywalker.

We Eat 100 Star Wars Gari-Gari Kun Bars in Search of Original T-Shirt, Stare Deep Into the Dark Side

We Eat 100 Star Wars Gari-Gari Kun Bars in Search of Original T-Shirt, Stare Deep Into the Dark Side

Japan’s most beloved popsicle, Gari-Gari Kun, is a simple yet delicious combination of kakigori (shaved ice) encased in an ice candy shell. Currently, a limited-edition “Rich Chocolate Vanilla Chocolate Cake” (yes, that’s two chocolates!) Gari-Gari Kun is being sold to promote the March 16 Japan release of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace 3D.

While “Rich Chocolate Vanilla Chocolate Cake” itself has nothing to do with Star Wars, the wooden stick is branded to look like a light saber and, most importantly, anyone lucky enough to find a stick with “Star Wars Atari” written on it can receive a Star Wars: Episode 1 3D x Gari-Gari Kun original T-shirt!

Now, Japanese people are highly susceptible to words like “limited-edition” and “original.” In my case, throw “Star Wars” in the mix and really I have no other choice but to feed on Gari-Gari Kun bars until I hold a winning stick in my hand.

I have eaten at least 1 Star Wars Gari-Gari Kun bar a day since the promotion began on Feburary 28 but have yet to find a winner. Finding my devout efforts left unrewarded, I began to feel an uncontrollable malice consuming me—I was being pulled into the dark side of the Force.

It was then that I made a decision that I knew would either save me from the dark side or bind me to it forever: I decided to buy and eat 100 Gari-Gari Kun bars at once.
