Animesia is a project combining two things dear to the hearts of the Japanese – anime and food. The title itself is a play on the word anime and the casual Japanese word for food, meshi. Run by The Association of Japanese Animations, it aims to turn the 2D dishes seen in your favourite animes into real, edible morsels, for a limited time only!

The anime food and recipe exhibition will be held from February 11 – 16 at Tokyo Anime Center in Akihabara. So far eight dishes and their recipes have been announced.

Here’s the menu, along with the anime each dish is featured in:

  • Spam onigiri, tank cake (Girls und Panzer)
True to its title, Girls und Panzer is a show revolving around girls and tanks. And apparently also spam. Mmm… spam.

  • Stew donburi, Tanda’s wild vegetable soup (Moribito series)
    Donburi
is a bowl of rice complemented by a topping, in this case a delicious hot stew.

  • Kyōko’s favourite restaurant’s ramen (Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie)
There’s no news yet as to what kind of ramen this will be. Perhaps there’s a secret ingredient…?

  • Crepe okonomiyaki (Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel)
    Okonomiyaki
is a kind of Japanese savoury ‘pancake’. With that title we were sure it would be something involving whipped cream, but never mind.

  • Meatball spaghetti, Lupin’s Prosciutto and San Daniele ham (Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro)
