The Japanese fruit-chew candy, Hi-Chew, is getting more and more popular these days and it can be found all over the world, even in the Boston Red Socks’ locker room. Some Japanese consumers, however, seem to be sick of the same-old rectangle shape and chewiness and are starting to find new ways to eat it.
It all started when Twitter user @zshda came up with an easy way to turn Hi-Chews into a hard candy (which kind of defeats the purpose, but whatever). She listed the easy steps in a single tweet:
▼ 1. Microwave the Hi-Chews for 90 seconds.
▼ 2. Twirl the goop around a spoon. 3. Let it cool or chill it. 4. Enjoy your hard candy!

The tweet caught fire (kind of like some of the Hi-Chews, but we’ll get to that later), being retweeted almost 2,000 times. Her innovation spurred many Hi-Chew lovers to try the experiment for themselves.
Some people had no problem making the frozen treat, raving about the taste and even improving the recipe:
▼One person used a tooth pick instead of the spoon. Much more convenient!

Others found even better ways to enjoy their Hi-Chews. Whoever said not to play with your food, has clearly never melted Hi-Chews before.
▼Some people found that the melted Hi-Chews had a nice clay-like consistency.

▼ When you have clay-like Hi-Chew goop, might as well make something cute, right?

▼How many Hai-Chews had to be melted to make this incredible candy artwork?!

▼ Now, really, this is getting out hand! A fruity, edible Hi-Chew rose!?

As I expect you will be trying this at home as soon as possible, I feel the need to remind you of Step 0: “Take the Hi-Chew out of the wrapper,” which apparently some people forgot to do:
“When I microwaved a Hi-Chew with the wrapper still on, it kind of exploded…”
“I left the wrapper on when I microwaved the Hi-Chew- it flashed and caught on fire..”
I’d rather no harm come to any of our readers, so when you do microwave your Hi-Chews, be careful! But also, don’t forget to let us know in the comment section below what you created and how well it turned out! Good luck!
